I learnt so much researching and coordinating this workshop at Stansbury Institute as part of South Australia’s History Festival 2019. First setting the scene with a slideshow of images and Narungga words compiled by the Narungga Aboriginal Progress Association. Then I presented about Europeans’ (bindirra) relationships with Narungga people, the Point Pearce mission (Burgiyana) and Narungga culture today. My collaborator Richard Maerschel covered pastoral, mining, farming and shipping history of the Peninsula. People enjoyed the opportunity to gather before hand at St Augustine’s Church and the Stansbury Museum and tours of local sites after. It gave locals and visitors the chance to meet and to share stories. Ngayi yunggu (Thank you).
